The church has often used sports as an outreach tool. Paul Powell was a teenager growing up in Port Arthur, Texas, when he learned that First Baptist Church had a softball team. He began attending and playing, and soon his involvement led to his salvation. He said, “I was willing to take religion to get the recreation. But I found something better than both—I found redemption through Jesus Christ.”

VBS 2010 Day 1
VBS Son-Quest Rain Forest is finally here! We're off to a great start with 98 kids and lots of workers the first day. We learned about the Parable of the 4 Soils in Bible, and built on that theme in crafts by making a sod baby with GREEN HAIR.
Speaking of GREEN, tomorrow is GREEN DAY! Wear your green stuff. Mr. Daniel is all mixed up. He forgot that WED. is CRAZY HAIR DAY.
Snacks were crazy good - DIRT PUDDING with GUMMY WORMS, chips and kool-aid. Yum! Wonder what we're having tomorrow?

Something to Quench Your Thirst
Edwin Perkins is one of the greatest inventors that America has ever produced. Now I realize that his name is not mentioned in the same breath with Thomas Alva Edison or Alexander Graham Bell, but in 1927 in Hastings, Nebraska, Edwin Perkins invented something that made a lasting impact on our nation. In 1927, Edwin Perkins invented Kool-Aid. There was a liquid concentrate called “Fruit Smack” that was popular, but shipping it was expensive. So, Edwin Perkins discovered a way to remove the liquid from Fruit Smack, leaving only a powder. He named this powder, “Kool-Aid.”
Y.C.M.T. Morning of Day 2 (Sunday)
This morning we sang at our host church - Bedico Baptist Church - for their two services (Traditional Service & Contemporary Service). The favorite song of the morning had to be "I Am" which is such a powerful song. Exodus 3:14 God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM"; and He said, "Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, 'I AM has sent me to you.'"
Bedico (pronounced something like Bee-dee-ko from best I can tell - ha) has been very, very supportive and welcoming.
